Friends, today is a different kind of post then my usual. Last Friday we received confirmation that my beautiful, sweet, newly turned 6 year old boy has Autism. Just typing that out seems surreal. It wasn't a surprise as the word "Autism" has been spoken on a number of occasions the past few years since my son is non-verbal, but very, very smart. Our move to Arkansas over the summer gave us access to one of the best Autism Centers in North America, that is funded in part by the Autism Speaks organization. Last week was one of the most difficult weeks I have ever had to endure, and I'm certain it won't be the last. Over the weekend there were lots of extra hugs, and extra love, as we try and come to terms with what this means for our family. Today I am dedicating this card to my Beautiful Cameron.
I created this card using stamps from Technique Tuesday, and the Text background stamp from Papertrey Ink.
I would love to hear any stories you may have from personal experience involving Autism, or special needs kids in general. If you wish to do so my email address is alwaysctr @ yahoo.com
I will be creating a "Team Cameron" Walk For Autism Speaks Team very soon and would love for you to join our team.
Thank you for stopping by today, and thank you for letting me share this with you today.
Giant hugs to you! I used to be a therapist for kids with special needs so it's very close to my heart. I'm here if you ever need to chat.
ReplyDeleteI am sure this is a lot for your family to absorb and become comfortable with... But it must be somewhat a relief to put a name to it, and move forward with that! Your card is beautiful, I love the text technique you used. Thinking of you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous card and heartfelt post, Veronica!! I wish Cameron gets the best therapy/access. Sending you hugs! Go, Team Cameron!
ReplyDeleteOh my. I think its tremendous that you moved to find services. Its an awful diagnosis, I know, I also have an autistic nonverbal 6 year old. But now that you've got it you can get the right services. Stories, yes! I've got lots. I'll be in touch. ((hugs))
ReplyDeleteOh V, I'm so sorry to hear this news about Cameron. The "label" does not change how beautiful your son is and I have no doubt he has an amazing future ahead. Much love to you xo
ReplyDeleteDear Veronica, I have no experience to share but just wanted to tell you what a beautiful card you made for your son and to send you a big hug full of strenght. I'm sure Cameron will do great, because he's surrounded by a loving and caring family, and that's the best possible start.

ReplyDeleteVeronica, what a beautiful card and post in honor on Cameron. Hugs and prayers to you and your family as you begin this journey. All the best.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with us, Veronica! I have a different situation than you (my son has hearing loss and has had hearing aids since he was 3) but I completely understand your situation! All I can say is that even though you feel like your world been turned on its side right now with Cameron's official diagnosis, it does give you a starting point and some direction. Soon it will be a big part of your world, but it won't be the ONLY thing in your world (if you know what I mean). In the end, he's your sweet boy and that's all that matters:) If you ever want to vent, please feel free to email me (ribbongirls at gmail dot com). Big hugs to you and Cameron.
ReplyDeleteThis is SUPER pretty!
ReplyDeleteSo Sorry to hear about your son! I don't have any personal experiences with autism but I know that some of the brightest and most creative people have had it. I wish you and your family the best as you head towards the challenges this will bring. And also wanted to say that your card is really beautiful- caught my eye today!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Cameron will thrive no matter what the diagnosis because of the love and support from family and friends. Beautiful card and tribute!
ReplyDeletewow the colors on this card are amazing.. love those flowers.. gorgeous card..
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say that I found your post today so very moving, and I wish all the best for you, your son and your family. You are beginning a journey--not the one you thought you'd be on, but I'm sure there will be lots of joy and love the whole way through.
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm just getting around to see this post, but I wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you and your family. I'm sure you've been through many emotions since getting an official diagnosis for Cameron, but it sounds like you are arming yourself with all of the knowledge and tools you will need to help him become the incredible person he is meant to be. Hugs to you, Veronica!
ReplyDeleteHave you heard of Temple Grandin? Autism advocate. Here she is on TED, talking about her life on the autism spectrum. Very inspiring lady.
