Hello! Happy World Autism Awareness Day! My name is Veronica Zalis, the host and organizer of today's Stamping For Autism Awareness Blog Hop. As many in the stamping community know I have a 10 year old son with non verbal autism. Today I am THRILLED to be here along with so many of my dear friends, and amazing stamp companies as we help bring Autism Awareness to the stamping community.
My son Cameron was officially diagnosed when he was 5. Up to that age his pediatricians thought he was just a "late talker" and that he had a few "quirks". Cameron doesn't display many of the classic autism characteristics. A day with Cameron is actually not that different from a day with any other kid. He loves Disney, listening to music, and organizing his extensive DVD collection. He doesn't speak but he communicates via smart device and is an extremely advanced typist and speller. I am so very thankful for that. He has no problem letting us know what he is feeling, which 99% of the time is pure joy. We consider ourselves lucky, yes, LUCKY. Cameron has autism, but there are so many that have so many more challenges associated with an Autism diagnosis. Our life isn't always easy but we can't imagine what our lives would be like without him.
“Sometimes it is the people no one can imagine anything of who do the things no one can imagine,” - Alan Turing, creator of the first computer used to break codes during WW II.

Today I am excited to share two cards I created using the Brand New release from Taylored Expressions: "Look With Your Heart". Taylored Expressions is donating 25% of April sales of "Look With Your Heart" to The Autism Society. Amazing!
To create my rainbow puzzle background I used the single puzzle metal die to create a stencil. It was time consuming, but easy! I am thrilled with the end result. I used Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink to create my bright, rainbow background. The striped ribbon is retired Stampin' Up! ribbon. I save EVERYTHING!
To create this card I used the negative die cut of the Stitched Heart Stax from My Favorite Things. I used three shades of Tim Holtz Blue Distress Oxide Ink. I heat embossed the sentiment using white Stampin' Up embossing powder. I did that before sponging the blue heart. The butterfly is from the MFT Beautiful Butterflies stamp and die set.
I invited a FANTASTIC group of designers and friends to join me today. The cards they created are absolutely amazing. Prizes will be chosen from the comments on this blog, and all of the designers posted below.

What a wonderful hop! Your cards are gorgeous! Your rainbow puzzle is amazing and I love blue card as well!!! I created a card in blue this year, last year I created one with the rainbow of colors. I LOVE the graphic at the bottom of your post with the sentiment about "whether we color the world our light it up blue...". Is it ok to grab it and use it on my own blog?
Our son was diagnosed with Aspbergers syndrome. He is doing well and in college right now but there were some very difficult days. Your son is adorable!!! I am so glad that he is able to communicate with you!!! Love and hugs!!!

A great cause to raise awareness for.
Thank you for this, Veronica. I am amazed that autism touches so many people's lives and I'm so happy to see the new stamp set. Those of us who have family members with autism know that it can be very challenging to get others to understand the people we love.
What a fantastic idea to raise awareness! Lovely cards you created with the beautiful Autism inspired stamp by Taylored Expressions. It's wonderful (but not surprising) how the crafting community has gathered round to support you! Thank you for your time to organize this hop and also to the designers and the companies for their participation and sponsorship.
Amazing job putting this hop together. I know it will bring so much awareness to so many!
I won't be able to hop along, but I wanted to congratulate you on your amazing list of generous and talented friends! I personally know the blessing (and trials) of raising a special child. Cameron has a beautiful smile. I'm so glad he can communicate his joy.
thank you for all the organizing you have done for this awareness....my heart belongs to mental health and breast cancer
Thanks for drawing attention to this important cause. My daughter teaches kids with autism and so this cause is near and dear to my heart!!! So glad your son is doing so well!
Hi Veronica. Thank you for doing this awesome hop. There is so much to learn about autism. I am not shocked by the amount of companies who have donated. This means a lot to me because my nephew is autistic. The cards are so beautiful. He's 8 going on 9 in a few months. He is also non-verbal but is unable to communicate with any type of device. His parents, including myself and my mother have set up schedules for feed and interact with him on a daily basis. We keep things consistent. He does not like change. His favorite thing to do is listen to music and chasing his little 4 year old cousin around. I love my nephew so much and so happy to have him in my life. Thank you again Veronica and sharing about your son. Have a blessed day.
Your cards are beautiful - so bright and colorful. Great hop too. Good to see so many caring individuals and companies supporting a worthy cause.
Hi, it is absolutely great to see so many people come together to raise Autism awareness. This is an amazing way to bring focus on art and the therapeutic aspects of it. I'd love to send Cameron a card, when you have a spare moment, would you shoot me your snail mail? He's a beautiful kid and you're a fabulous momma.
Fabulous blog hop and

What a wonderful way to raise awareness and understanding! So heartwarming to see so many talented crafters and fabulous companies coming together for such an important cause.
Your cards are awesome, I especially love the puzzle card!!! So bright and colorful! And those stamps are perfect! I worked in the school system for years in a support role and know how awesome these kids and families can be, and the struggles they go through too. Thank you for bringing this to light ;-) Crafters with a cause is a powerful force!

Dear Veronica,
I was so touched to read your post about the blog hop. I have joined your blog and also subscribed.
We have two autistic lads in our family and so wanted to support this when I saw it on Jennifer's post. I shared my post on our WOYWW blog hop which is a Workdesk Wednesday blog hop and so should get you some more coverage especially in UK.
I pray for you and your brave son Cameron, may the LORD bless you in all ways.
The hard things on our life cause us to cling to Him more and not rest in our own strength so it is good.. hard, very very hard but good.
Prayer hugs, in Jesus' name,

Love your post and thank you for sharing your story. For many parents it's hard to even accept the diagnostics. When my family member found out he wanted to keep it a secret from everyone. He unfortunately passed and he left his child behind, but has a gift from God, the child's grandfather has embraced every part of it! He takes him to therapy, swimming classes, creates everyday patterns for him, teaches him songs. It has been difficult because everytime he feels there's progress it's 5 steps back but when there is God and love there is a way. The whole family gathers around to show their support, love and affection but none like grandpa's love. So salute to you and all the other families that show so much love even when things get rough.
Beautiful cards! And the sentiments are just great!

Thank you for organizing this blog hop for Autism awareness. Love your rainbow colored card with the puzzle pieces with a great message.
You put together an amazing hop Veronica! Thanks so much for asking me to join. I've been struck by the folks visiting my blog - definitely crafters, but I think you've touched a lot of people who have friends and family with autism too, their gratefulness and appreciation has been wonderful, you did good!!!
I love the idea of crafting for a cause! It's wonderful to see so many people willing to contribute to increasing people's awareness and understanding of autism.
Thanks so much for organizing this very important blog hop. I love seeing everyone come together in support and get so many new ideas for creating cards for our special loved ones, the many therapists, aides, special teachers and organizations that work with them. I love to be able to send a handmade card with a special story of how they touched my sons life in some personal way and handmade cards have been so cherished by those that receive them.
It’s also so reassuring to see this huge community of support so I don’t feel quite so alone!
Peace, Kim Faucher
What an awesome cause!
What a great initiative you have taken here! Wonderful project. I am amazed about the response you gained. All the best to you and to all supporters. Your card is gorgeous!

I have a friend who has a kid who is as special as all the other kids. I remember when her son was diagnosed and she said, 'why my child?' And I told her because only very special children of God can take care of a boy as special as hers. But this awareness is so important, our society needs to embrace and give more support. I wish you and your boy, the very best in life and a biggg hug from me in India! God bless him with his choicest blessing.
Super idea for this blog hop! God bless you and yours!
Thanks for doing this! My nephew has autism and is bi-polar. He loves swimming and music. Blessings on all of you on the hop and hoppers.
it was an stunning and super beautiful hop, super inspiring!
My kiddos too. Thanks for doing this and to all the companies for making beautiful, meaningful things for us to use.
What a wonderful thing to do!! I love this cause and I adore your cards!!
I finished the hop and I just wanted to come back by and say thanks again. I saw some beautiful cards but even more important were the stories. You don't realize how many people are impacted and touched by autism until you here the stories and see into people's lives.
Your cards are both amazing-I really love the
rainbow puzzle card! This is a huge Blog Hop
for Autism-way to go!
I deeply appreciate everyone's efforts to bring awareness to the disability of Autism! Thank you all! I have a 34 year old daughter with Autism. There were so many years I struggled alone to find a doctor or therapist, anyone to help with my daughter. We struggled during those beginning years as the laws changed toward children with disabilities in schools. So much has changed, yet there is more to go! Again, thank you for helping to open the world to individual's with Autism!
Wonderfull cards, the one with the puzzle pieces is just gorgeous coloured.
Hope you get a lot of respons on your blog hop and that it will bring moreawareness to people about Autism
I love this blog hop - it's wonderful to create more awareness of autism in it's many varied forms.
My "baby" cousin, who delights in also being my "biggest" cousin has autism and I find people often make assumptions about him due to his autism. He continues to surprise me even now at the age of 31.
Also after the past few weeks I really needed an evening of inspiration and this has been the best medicine! Thank you!
Thank you for this fabulous hop !

Beautiful cards! Beautiful reson for a hop. I'm new to card making. I'm impressed with the way you reach out to lift up others. No offense to men but these strong beautiful women help encourage each other.way to go!
WOW! What a wonderful hop. Great cards, projects, colors, stamps and designs. Just amazing. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you for supporting such a wonderful cause. My heart is full. My son, Bryan, was also diagnosed at age 5 and I'm blessed by him every day! Thank you for the inspiration. Dorcas dtroche@bellsouth.net
I love your card and especially the puzzle stamp set. I have a nephew with Asbergers (a form of autism) and I've seen him made fun of all over the world (military family) and it breaks my heart. Even though he can function and live on his own he has never had a girlfriend and some people are afraid of him. He is now working on getting an Emotional Support dog because of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrom from being bullied. The more people who understand and are compassionate towards others the better.
I’m late getting to this hop.. It’s so wonderful to doo something for autism awareness. My 22 year old som is auttiistic. You wouldn’t nessecarily notice right away and people are sometimes taken aback when speaking with him. He’s very bright but his communication skills are off and he doesn’t understand verbal ques. People that don’t work with autistisc individuals need to understand that my. son has feelings and can understand when they are treated differently. He just wants to feel normal.
WOW! What a wonderful hop you have created. Wonderful cards for a wonderful message to spread and keep people aware. Thanks for your inspiration!
Thank you so much, Veronica, for all the work that went into this hop. Fabulous sponsors!! Your card is gorgeous.
